"It would be a good thing too. Every year, they send someone here to ransack the buildlings, demanding we pay taxes by orders of the king. We don't have much in terms of Crescilian money, you see. We prefer to live out here in tune with the land, but that blasted king has decided that even though we live so far out in the woods, we still must pay his exhorbitant taxes. And when we tell them we don't have much to give, they go through our houses taking whatever they please, and beating our families."
You stiffen in surprise. You had always been told the king was the magnanimous sort.
"Greg...We apologize, $name, as the Royal Mage of Crescilia, I'm sure you hold a lot of responsibilities that don't include listening to the complaints of the forest people.
