Real life can wait. With a sigh, you snuggle back into the warm drowsiness of your bedroll... ''"Get. Up."'' This time, each word is punctuated by a sharp kick to your shoulder, jolting you painfully into the waking world. Cursing, you try to roll away, but a firm hand grabs the front of your tunic. With as much outrage as you can muster - your eyes are still grimy with sleep, a bit of drool wet on your cheek - you glare up at your assailant. Sir Kay the Honorable, in service to the Court of the White King, and [[your tormentor of the last week]] looms over you, glowering. The time for dreaming is over. With a sigh, you open your eyes. Recall what Aiden told you about [[the Green Knight, and Sir Kay's quest]] Imagine Sir Kay falling off his horse and into a ravine as you [[continue on the road]] At first, you think the space is filled with gleaming light. But no, you realize, as your eyes adjust, illumination comes from only a few mounted torches on the walls. A great hall stretches out before you - far larger than the hill outside - and the light dances off of mountainous heaps of gold and trinkets piled throughout it. But what draws your eye is a towering statue at the end of the hall. It looks like a man, or maybe a giant, sculpted out of wood, overgrown with moss and clinging vines. His hands are folded over the hilt of an enormous axe. [[Take a closer look]] [[Keep back]] Sir Kay's lip curls as he looks down at you. "Get moving, serf. If I had a proper squire, we would already be on the road by now." You bite back your first retort - you're not a servant. Even though you come from humble beginnings, you //were// a page at Castle Caliburn, on track to become a squire. If you had the chance to prove your worth, you could even be become a knight yourself. You also swallow your second comment - that Sir Kay's //real// squire, Aiden, isn't here for [[a reason.]] Yesterday, you trekked through a steep mountain range. Today, the road winds through a verdant forest, full of babbling brooks and charming wildlife, like something out of a fairytale. Eventually, the woods give way to sprawling hills, folding gently into the distance. You know it as soon as you see it. Among the rolling landscape before you, one hill stands out, larger than the others, and somehow not-quite-natural. A door is set into the hillside, the earth surrounding it shaped like a fearsome face. Sir Kay dismounts before it, and you follow suit. "Secure the horses, and bring me my armor," Kay commands. When you finish, you and Sir Kay stand before the door in silence. [[Open the doors.]](set: $imMut +=1) Curious at the presence of this relic, you step closer, until you stand at the base of the statue, looking up into its enormous face. [[meet the green knight]] (set: $imPerc +=1) You hang back, suddenly wary of the outrageous wealth, the statue, the too-great great hall. Kay has no such qualms. The knight pushes past you, his eyes fixed on the glittering heaps of gold. He doesn't seem to notice the statue. "Ha! I knew that cowardly creature wouldn't dare to show his face.
