Usability Tests

Questions:
1.)What do you think about the intro? Is it too long?

2.)By the time you are introduced to the elevator buttons, can you explain to me what is happening in the story?

3.)What are your feelings towards Nobody at the end of each floor? Do you think what they are doing is right?

4.)How do you feel about Bullz, Bunz, Kitts respectively? Did you like or dislike them?

5.)Do you mind the absence of color?

6.)Did you ever forget what items you had, or what key events had happened? Such as Bunz/Lily "joining" your party?

7.)Do you find the dead ends to be boring? Do you wish for there to be more ways to get "game over"?

8.)Do you care about what happens to Lily? What about Nobody?

9.)How long did the game take you?

10.)How many "extra info" scenes did you encounter? (For example, the scene with the tortoise, Grammy T, or the posters in the caves)

Most people seemed to enjoy the story. The intro didn't seem to be that long according to the people I asked, and most also understood what was going on at each part.

I asked how they felt about the wellbeing of each character; the top favorite characters were Nobody, Lily, and Bunz. I found it funny few cared about Bullz. People did say they felt wrong whenever they helped Nobody erase another character; my friend Yujin was particularly upset after Bunz's death, because Bunz "was such a cute character" (which I was going for). Something I found interesting was that one friend told me they didn't care about Lily all too much, cause they knew they'd be fine in the end (which wasn't particulary true if you didn't get the true ending), but they did care about Nobody cause they didn't know what would happen to them. A lot of them missed the "extra scenes", which held a lot of information that could have potentially changed your opinion about Nobody's actions and Bullz, Bunz, and Kitts' personalities and past actions.

My friends wished it was in color, but they didn't mind it all that much- I really did want to color this, but it was just way too much in the amount of time I had, which is one big regret I had.

Items didn't seem to be a problem.

A lot of people had trouble getting the "true" ending, which had Lily living at the end. One particular friend had tried several times trying to get the ending, but failed. I think I should have made the "getting the red notebook/sword" part a little easier. A lot were confused by Kitt's hint at this. But other than that, they enjoyed the endings.

The time it took to do one full completion of the game (reaching their first ending) varied among different friends. Some took about 40 minutes, others about 20. A lot of them went back to play to get different endings, which I was happy about.

Some parts were particularly confusing, such as the festival level. I might go back and make it a bit easier for people to navigate it.

Note: I wish I had designed the storymap much more efficiently.
